UNSW Landcare Group

Landcare tree planter
The UNSW Landcare Group, which comprises students, staff and friends of UNSW, come together twice a year for a mass tree planting event in the beautiful Capertee Valley, approximately three hours from Sydney on the edge of the Wollemi National Park.
“Two key areas of the University’s Environment Management Plan are greenhouse gas abatement and biodiversity enhancement,” said Cameron Little from the University’s Environment Unit. “The tree planting weekends are not only a heap of fun and a chance for us to get out of the city, but also a great opportunity for us to plant thousands of trees every year and link our local campus-based initiatives to projects in the broader community.”
The trees planted help to address climate change and also help to enhance the local biodiversity by re-establishing previously lost habitat.
Participants camp out and are rewarded with entertainment on the Saturday night, shared meals, stargazing and plenty of tall tales around the campfire.
