Household waste disposal is more than just throwing your rubbish in the bin. Food and garden waste makes up half of all household waste and much of it can be recycled. Composting is a very good way to recycle fruit and vegetable scraps, grass clippings, twigs and branches to make fertiliser or potting mix for the garden.
It’s important for each of us to minimise waste because doing so means we can reduce our dependency on finding new landfills and avoid all the problems with toxic acids and other pollutants that contaminate groundwater and cause greenhouse pollution.

- Vegetation and untreated timber.
- Metals.
- Construction materials.
- Bricks, concrete and roof tiles.
- If you are buying a major appliance, encourage the supplier to consider taking back their packaging material.
